Thoughts on National Food As Medicine Day

Sep 14, 2022

I love that “food as medicine” has become more of a movement in the past few years. As functional medicine or “root cause medicine” has become a strong presence in the world of standard medical care, so has the concept of “food as medicine”  Hippocrates said it first “Let food be thy medicine and the medicine be thy food”.

Every bite we eat affects every cell in our bodies.  The power we have to affect our physical and mental health through what we choose to put in our mouths at mealtime is astounding and exciting.  Yes, sometimes we need lifestyle changes to move the needle, sometimes we need supplemental support or even pharmaceutical support, but the way that we choose to fuel our bodies can be life-changing in itself.

Bone broth can nourish your gut lining, raw fermented vegetables like sauerkraut have more bioavailable probiotics than any pill and will contribute to a healthy and robust microbiome.  Cruciferous veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage are full of cancer-fighting, immune-boosting nutrients.  Heck, the produce section of the grocery store is your pharmacy!

Being part of the eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. community, you know well how powerful it can be to eliminate foods that trigger symptoms and irritate your system.  You know what a game changer tweaking your diet can be. There are so many things we can’t control, like genetics, but we are in control of how we feed ourselves. I applaud you for doing what you can to fight for your health, for making choices about what you eat—choices that may not always be easy—to help your bodies heal. We support you and will continue to create products that bring freedom, joy and FUN to those on restorative diets!
