AIP / Allergy-Friendly Applesauce or Squash Bread

Apples are not only delicious but also highly nutritious, making them a great choice for a healthy diet. They are rich in fiber, especially soluble fiber, which helps support digestion and regulate blood sugar levels. Apples are also packed with antioxidants, including vitamin C, which is crucial for immune function and skin health. The high water content in apples helps with hydration and makes them a satisfying snack that can curb hunger.

In terms of their AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) compliance, apples are indeed allowed. AIP is a dietary protocol designed to help individuals with autoimmune conditions by eliminating foods that may trigger inflammation and immune system responses. The AIP focuses on nutrient-dense foods like vegetables, fruits, meats, and healthy fats, while excluding grains, legumes, dairy, processed foods, and certain nightshades.

Apples fall within the “allowed fruits” category on the AIP, meaning they can be enjoyed as part of an AIP-compliant diet. They provide a natural source of sweetness without the need for added sugars, which is an important aspect of AIP. Furthermore, apples are a good source of nutrients like potassium, which supports heart health and muscle function.

However, it’s important to note that some people on the AIP may need to be cautious with the quantity of fruit they consume, as even healthy options like apples can be high in natural sugars. Also, apples are high in FODMAPs too.  Our co-founder, Kerry, limits apples for this reason!  Moderation is key, and it’s always a good idea to listen to your body and adjust accordingly.

Overall, apples are a nutrient-packed fruit that can be enjoyed in a variety of AIP-compliant recipes, adding both flavor and health benefits to your meals.
